Joseph L. Lelievre
Joseph Lelievre, 88, of Sanford, died January 28 at home after a long illness.He was born in Sanford on November 29, 1919, the son of Patrick and Minnie (Leblanc) Lelievre, attended local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Sanford High School.Mr. Lelievre was a decorated army veteran of World War II. His service in New Guinea and in the liberation of the Philippines earned him a purple heart and a silver star for actions over and above the call of duty.After the war, he returned home and worked variously for Seamloc, Pioneer Plastics, as a TV repairman for Don's Electric and for Cyro from where he retired.He was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Holy Family Church. He was also a member of the local VFW Post.If it was electronic in nature, he had it covered. He loved to tinker with radios, televisions, computers, anything electronic. He was a long time home amateur radio operator with call sign KA1APA. If it was electronic, he could build it, repair it, improve it. While many people of his generation would shy away from computers, he enjoyed them. He could install hardware, reconfigure operating systems, rebuild or repair them.His wife, Jeanne (Bernier) Lelievre, died in 2004.Survivors include a son, Roger Lelievre of Sanford, 2 daughters, Carol Ouellette and her husband Ronald of Epsom, NH, Linda Normand and her husband Roland of Sanford, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.A graveside service with full military honors will be held in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
