Joseph H. Johndrow, 72, of Shapleigh, passed away on Friday January 5, 2018. He was born in Kittery on the family farm on February 8, 1945 a son of the late Joseph H. Johndrow Sr., and Marjorie A. (Gerry) Johndrow. He is the husband of Lila M. Grissom Johndrow. He attended Shapleigh School and Traip Academy in Kittery.He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1971 in the 15th Combat Engineers 9th Infantry E Division as a cook.Almost married 50 years, this June they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary. They met in Portsmouth and were married in York. They eventually moved to Shapleigh where they raised their four girls and remained in Shapleigh throughout their married life.Joseph worked as an over the road truck driver. He delivered oil and propane for Pare Oil in Springvale. He worked for the company for over 20 years remaining with the company when it was sold to Webber Oil and again when it was sold to Dead River Company where he retired from.He enjoyed bass fishing especially with his brother Ken, and other family members and friends. He also enjoyed NASCAR Racing. He was part of his brother Ken's pit crew for many years. He enjoyed reading about history, especially the Civil War. He loved working outdoors, maintaining the yard and gardening. He was especially fond of feeding birds and watching wildlife. He loved dogs and sneaking them treats, and taking his dogs for walks. He was known for telling silly jokes and making people laugh. He loved teasing everyone. He was always happy being the entertainer of the family. He loved his family very much and loved being with them.Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Cheryl Boston and her husband Carl Boston Sr., Naomi Johndrow, Rachel Johndrow, Amanda Huff, siblings, Kenneth Aucoin and wife, Genie, Vicki Trueman, sisters in law, Vickie Clement, Carolyn Hall, Nancy Banes and Sandra Lilly and her husband Bill. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Keith and Amber Aucoin, Linda, Lee-Anne, Jessie and Katie Trueman, Sarah Wetzel, Johnny and Barbara Poe, Sherry Spain, Chris Cummings, Frankie McCrary, Michelle Crowder, Paul Lilly and Michael Bolton. Grandchildren, Mark Johndrow-Boston, Carl Jr., Nathan, Kyle and A.J. Boston, Daniel, Arlene and Jacob Huff. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, cousins that were more like brothers and sisters, as well as several great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dogs, Patches, Owen, Muppet and De DeA graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday at 11AM at the Southern Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road in Springvale. A memorial service will follow at the Limington SDA Church, 1290 Cape Road, Limington.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
