Joseph W. Henry, 89, of Sanford, died at the Newton Center in Sanford on September 15, 2012, five days short of his 90th birthday.Joseph was born in Cranston, Rhode Island on September 20, 1922 and was adopted by Manuel and Mary (Perry) Henry. He served in World War II and was one of the few remaining Merrill's Marauders. After the war, he married and resided in Naugatuck, CT where he lived until relocating to Maine in 1981.Joseph enjoyed model trains, playing golf and playing cards. He was also an avid New York Giants and New York Yankees fan for his entire life. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Andersen) Henry.Surviving are two children, Joann Genest, her husband Gerald of Sanford, and Robert M. Henry of Sanford; his uncle, James Arruda Henry of Stonington, Ct, his nephew N.W. Hess III of Naugatuck, CT, two grandchildren, Kristin Genest of Sanford and Joseph Genest of Cape Neddick; four great grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 29th at St. Ignatius Cemetery located on Berwick Road in Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Animal Welfare Society, Inc., P.O.
