Joseph Laurent Guillemette
Joseph Laurent Guillemette, 79, of Lyman, died at the Maine Medical Center in Portland on Sunday, May 5, 2013 after battling a long illness.Joe was born in Sanford on March 22, 1934 to George and Emma (Laitres) Guillemette. When he was young he lived on the family farm and attended local schools. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served eight years in the 101st Airborne. After returning from the military Joe married Cecile Hupe on April 28, 1962.Joe held several different jobs after leaving the military including working for several years at Guillemette Brothers Excavating. He went on to work as a pipe fitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he was employed for many years until retiring 20 years ago. While working at the shipyard he was often referred to as "Joe from Dunoon," because of his frequent trips to Dunoon, Scotland. After retiring, Joe could not sit idle. He went to work for Shain's farm where he worked the fields for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends but will always be able to be seen plowing the fields off into the sunset.Joe was predeceased by his parents, George and Emma Guillemette and by seven siblings.Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Cecile Hupe Guillemette; five children, Steve Guillemette and his wife Kim of Ayden, North Carolina, Raymond Guillemette and his wife Carol of Kennebunk, Denise St. Pierre and her husband Roger of Alfred, Robert Guillemette and his wife Michele of Waterboro and Joanne Nichols and her husband Chad of Hollis; 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 13th at the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Phillip's Church, located at 404 Goodwin's Mills road in Lyman. Interment will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 15th at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, Maine 04330-5615.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family online please click on the condolences tab to the left.
