South Portland - David Wayne DiCenso, 70, passed away on November 18, 2022 at home peacefully with his family by his side.
David was born in Portland Maine on August 3, 1952, the son of Vito and Camilla DiCenso. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1972. On July 4, 1972, David met the love of his life, Alice “Alley”. They married on March 20, 1976, and recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. They had two children, Valorie and Anthony.
Dave was well known for his strong work ethic. He put himself through school at SMCC to become the amazing electrician he was known to be, all while working 3 jobs at any given time to provide for his family. He worked at Pizzagalli Construction as the grounds maintenance keeper for 20 years, and then went on to work for Commercial Properties for another 15+ years. He also worked many years as a side job for Electrician Jim Talbert, whom he thought a lot of. Dave was a workaholic, known as the “Go to Guy” to all. He was the guy who everyone called for all things, no matter if it was electrical or car related, he wore many hats. He seemed to have all the answers for the needs of others and was always happy to help. Dave would never accept a penny from anyone, he was too proud to do that.
Dave loved nothing more than being with his family and spending time with each of his grandchildren, both together and individually. He always made sure each grandchild felt loved and special in their own way. He loved hunting, golfing, and cooking. He was known for his “mad skills” on the BBQ, always cooking up the most amazing hamburgers and steaks. He was also known for his amazing fish chowders and spaghetti sauce - the list goes on and on. He loved reminiscing and telling stories, captivating all who listened. With every detail and his animation, you were always left with a smile and tears of laughter. He enjoyed taking little road trips with Alley, stopping in new places and seeing the sites. He especially loved taking nightly drives to Ram Island to see how many deer he could spot. If you joined him on this drive, consider yourself lucky. He enjoyed his last ride to Ram Island with Alley, and it is a drive that will never be forgotten. Dave was known for many things - first and foremost he was a family man - our sole provider, hard worker, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He had nicknames that meant a lot to him, some referred to him as “Diamond”, Bamps, Booka, Dave with a Dot, and Charlie.
David is predeceased by his parents, Vito and Camilla DiCenso; brother, Paul DiCenso; brother, Vito DiCenso; and sister, Valorie DiCenso.
He is survived by his wife Alley DiCenso of 46 years; daughter, Valorie Dianne Jordan and her husband Christopher Jordan; granddaughter, Maria Dianne Buck; son, Anthony David DiCenso and his wife Shayna DiCenso; grandsons, Anthony David DiCenso and David Wayne DiCenso; sisters, Dianne Tardy and her husband Dan Tardy, Claudia Ouellette, Terri Bickford and her husband John Bickford; and many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law who loved him very much.

My thoughts and prayers to David’s family.
I grew up with his Daughter, Valorie and there is not enough to say about how awesome her father was in so many ways. His facial expressions Id have to say were the best. I have been blessed for 30 plus years to have been close to the family and hold them so dear to my heart. Dave was the kind of father any child would want. He made life fun and enjoyable to anyone lucky enough to know him. Big hugs and lots of love to Alice, Val, Anthony, Maria lil Anthony & David.
Dave and I first met when we both worked at Canal Plaza years ago. You couldn’t ask for a friendlier person than Dave. It was always a pleasure when I interacted with him over many years.
Great person!
A few weeks ago my uncle Dave went hunting with his friend Mel. My uncle was very sick and he loved to hunt. To my surprise my uncle Dave and Mel dragged one out. He had the biggest smile on his face. That would be the last time I saw him. Thank you for all the special memories and I will miss seeing you every November.
We are so sorry for your loss. With deepest sympathies Michelle and David bickford
David was such a wonderful man and a great neighbor. We will never forget the day we were working on replacing our roof and David surprised us by coming over with these delicious hamburgers that he grilled for everyone who was working that day. What a kind and generous person he was! Our condolences to all of his family.

You was a good brother, Uncle, and friend. I love you and will miss you always. We shared so many fun and some sad times through the years. Dad always had you and me keep the weeds out of his grass. We would argue over who was doing most of the work and end up laughing and using the hose to cool down with on hot days. We have so many great memories of growing up together! I will miss you Sis Terri
