John Tovey

John R. Tovey, 71 of Alfred, died on October 26. 2010 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.John was born in East Boston MA, on July 17, 1939 to Harry and Bertha Tovey. He grew up in Wilmington MA and attended local schools .In 1965 he married Patricia Ann Saunders, they raised three sons living in the Tewksbury and Billerica MA areas before moving to Maine in 1982.John worked as a self-employed contractor for most of his life, building houses and pouring foundations. He was a very active man and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting , fishing, camping, and working in his yard. He loved to tell the story of a trip he made to Newfoundland in his camper with his family to bring his mother-in-law to see her family whom she had not seen in quite some time. Family was very important to him. He always looked forward to spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. They have very fond memories from the house in Alfred. He was a very giving man, he would always help a friend in need. He will be dearly missed by his family.John was predeceased by his wife in 2004 and by his sister Marion Smith in 1988.Surviving are his three sons, Michael Tovey and his wife Sandra of Sanford, Dennis Tovey and his wife LouAnn of Sanford and David Tovey of Alfred: five grandchildren, Christine, Kellie, Travis, Taylor and Cassandra; three sisters Jean Rouleau of Dracut MA. Veronica Tovey of Nashua NH and Rosemary Letellier of Lowell MA, and a brother, James Tovey of Dracut , MA. and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 6th with a period of visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
