john robinson

October 14, 1925 ~ October 29, 2011

John Robinson died on Oct. 29 at his home on the waterfront with friends and loved ones by his side. He was born in Portland Oct. 14, 1925, the son of Caro Chapman Robinson and Edward L. Robinson. After graduating from Deering High School, John served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II. He attended the U. of Maine, graduated from Dartmouth College, and studied at Bentley School of Accounting. He worked as a CPA for Ernst and Young. He was an avid sailor, built furniture, was a photographer, loved music, opera, Johnny Cash, animals, small kids, wooden boats, books and custard pie. He thought the world was a "wonderful place". He remembered his summer serving as a crew member on the windjammer the Stephen Taber as the happiest of his life. He was active in town affairs and served on the town council. As a result of his daughter Claudia's illness he became a volunteer and ardent supporter of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill. In later years he volunteered at HART caring for the cats at the shelter. He was married to the former Adele Joseph Gates and leaves two daughters Wendy Osgood of Exeter, NH and Didi Robinson of Yarmouth and grandchildren Edward Osgood of Guilford, CT; Bradford Osgood of Boston; Kathryn Reynolds of Yarmouth, and Nicholas Reynolds of Portland. He was predeceased by his daughter Claudia. He also leaves his two beloved kitties and his partner, Dorrine. We wish to thank all the caring people at Falmouth by the Sea and Marc for their loving care. At John's request services with burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth were private. Arrangements by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home 172 State Street, Portland. Happy Sailing, John. May you have fair winds and following seas. If desired, donations may be made to: The Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART), 300 Range Rd, Cumberland, ME 04021 or to the charity of your choice. Online Condolences for John Robinson
