October 28, 1926 ~ March 10, 2018

Falmouth - John V. Naples, 91, passed away March 10, 2018. Born in Portland on October 28, 1926, John was the son of the late Frank and Rachel (Bifulco) Naples. He graduated from Portland High School and The University of Maine at Orono. John honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Following his discharge, John returned home to Maine where he met the love of his life, Rita J. Letendre, dancing on the Old Orchard Beach Pier to the big bands. John and Rita were married on January 7, 1956 in Drummondville, Province of Quebec, Canada. Together, they made their home in Portland and raised their three children. He was a life-long employee with the New England Telephone Company. John worked hard to balance his work and family life. Together, the Naples family would spend time at the beach, Sebago Lake, or traveling to Connecticut or Canada to visit extended family. He loved to be the center of attention at family meals telling tales about his childhood in the family store, his military service, his love of Italian food made by his mother, and his zeal for walking to work daily and making life choices to keep him healthy in order to live a long life. He will be remembered always by his children and grandchildren as a man of compassion and wisdom. He had a passion for the latest automotive trends, current events, and followed the stock market as a hobby with his sons. He took pride in his home and enjoyed working in the yard. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita, on January 22, 2013. He is survived by his children, John M. Naples and wife Mary of Kennebunk and Shrewsbury, MA, Michael Naples of Portland, Lisa Lebel and husband David of Cumberland; brothers, Philip Naples of Glastonbury, CT and Nicholas Naples and wife Cathy of Glastonbury, CT. John is also survived by his 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. John's family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Falmouth by the Sea and Beacon Hospice. A period of visitation celebrating John's life will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 10-11AM at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth followed by an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 966 Riverside Street, Portland, ME 04103. Please annotate donations with John's name.
