John R. Mercier
John R Mercier, 62, of Sanford passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Sanford on July 6, 1949 a son of the late Edward and Pauline (Hevey) Mercier.He attended local schools and graduated with Sanford High Schools class of 1967. Worked under Eng. Tech. Training Program Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Vocation College. He was employed at Vishay Sprague for 35 years and most recently was employed at Poland Spring Bottling, Hollis, Me as a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic for the past 6 yrs.He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending his free time with his family with activities such as kayaking, camping, hockey, and golf. His other interests included puttering around the house on his tractor, gardening, home improvements, and spending time with his dogs, Mya and Kena.John was predeceased by his parents Edward and Pauline (Hevey) Mercier, his brother Paul and his sister Janice.He is survived by Claudette Mercier, his loving wife of 39 years; his daughter Melissa Mercier-Robbins of Acton, his son James of Sanford, grandchildren Devin, Tim, and Hunter.The Mercier Family wishes to thank all of our family and friends for their endless thoughts, prayers, and support through this long battle. We would also like to offer our extreme gratitude to the staff of Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, the nurses of Hospice of Southern Maine and all of the Staff at Maine Center for Cancer in Sanford for their exceptional care that was provided to John.Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 6 to 9PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11AM at St. Therese of Liseux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford.
