John R. Lahey, 77, of Sanford, Died on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.John was born in Watertown, MA on March 10, 1934 to John and Laura (Couillard) Lahey. He grew up in Waltham, MA where he attended local schools. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1976 he married Janet Hills. He moved to Maine and they spent the next 25 years together until her death in 2001. Shortly after moving to Maine John went to work for WASCO in Sanford. He was employed there in the crating department until he retired in 1997 due to illness.John was an avid Red Sox fan. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and was a life member of the Elks. John will be remembered as a kind and loving man with a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.John was predeceased by his parents, by three siblings, Phyllis Rogers, George Lahey and Robert Lahey and by his first wife, Florence Lahey (MacEachern.)Surviving are a son, John Lahey of Somerville, MA; a daughter, Joan (Lahey) MacEachern of Woburn, MA; a son, William Lahey and his wife Ruth of Sudbury, MA; a step-daughter whom he was very close to, Sheila Hills of Sanford; a step-daughter, Sylvia Grondin and her husband Ronald of Sanford; a step-son, George F. "Butch" Hills Jr. of Bradenton, FL; a former son-in-law Michael MacEachern of Townsend, MA five grandchildren, Nicole and Marissa MacEachern of Townsend, MA, Gregory and Christopher Grondin and Rene Hills, all from Sanford; two siblings, Ann (Lahey) Grimes and her husband Charles of Orlando, FL and Ronald Lahey and his wife Les of Woodburn, OR and many nieces and nephews.A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 16th at the Curtis Lake Christian Church, 38 Westview Drive in Sanford, ME.Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale, ME.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Greenwood Center Activity Fund, 1142 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
