John Francis Patrick Greeley, Jr., 57, of Portland, died peacefully August 18, 2014 at Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born March 15, 1957 in Portland, a son of John Francis Patrick Greeley, Sr. and Joan Grant Labbe. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Portland High School. He served in the Army the during Viet Nam era. John married Jeanette M. Scanlin on August 31, 1974. Following the service, John attended SMTC and received his Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences in 2000. He was employed at Sappi for eleven years and then at Berlin City Auto Dealership for seven years. He stopped working in 2010 due to his health. John loved to visit the beach, enjoyed playing pool and was a former pool player in the Portland Leagues. He was an avid Patriot's fan and enjoyed television. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a son Joshua L. in March of 1999. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette; sons, John F. Greeley, III of Portland, Matthew T. Greeley and his wife Christina of Greenville, SC; a sister, Barbara Fitzgerald and her husband Robert of Westbrook; a brother, Andrew Greeley of Old Orchard Beach; grandchildren, Emily P. and Brendan J. Greeley, McKinley Jack Greeley and expecting Olivia Faith Greeley in November. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A 10:00 a.m. graveside service will be held on Friday at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland with Military Rites.Online condolences may be expressed below.
