John Jack Michael Ginley

SOUTH PORTLAND - John "Jack" Michael Ginley, 73, of South Portland, died Friday October 18, 2013 at Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston, MA. He was born on September 5, 1940 in Holyoke, MA a son of John J. and Anne E. Moriarty Ginley. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke, a 1963 graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH; and earned a MBA at the University of Hartford in 1977. Jack worked in the reinsurance field for many years. He began his career with Guy Carpenter Inc. in New York City. He later worked for EW Blanch Co. also of New York City. He retired as vice president with Crum and Foster Corp. in 1998 from their Chicago Office. Jack came out of retirement in 2000, when he accepted a position with the Maine, Bureau of Insurance as an Examiner. He fully retired in 2006. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. Jack was actively involved with the Mended Hearts Program and a long-term volunteer at Maine Medical Center. He was an avid reader, enjoyed walking and playing cards. Jack and his wife enjoyed traveling. He loved sports, especially watching college basketball. Friends and family will miss his Irish wit. Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Sandra F. Ginley of South Portland; two daughters, Barbara Ginley and husband Bradford MacCachran of Portland, Caroline Ginley and husband Michael Rogers of Pittsboro, NC; a son Brian Ginley and wife Danelle Chereck of Peach Tree Corners, GA; three sisters, Ann Dittrich of Holyoke, MA, Patricia Vogt and husband Edgar of Sheboygan, WI, Jane McCarthy of Agawam, MA; a brother Jerome Ginley and wife Mary of Venice, FL; mother-in-law Mafalda Fanelli of Rocky Hill, CT; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Sidney Fowlds of Yorktown Heights, NY; four grandchildren, Cyrus and Tobias MacCachran, and Samuel and Ella Rogers. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and his four-legged pal, Murphy. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Monday October 21, 2013 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Tuesday the 22nd at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland. I worked with Jack at MMC for many years. He was my sidekick at the South Entrance, I loved his wit and teasing…He was a friend. I will miss him. Rest in Peace dear Jack
