John was born December 23, 1944 in Flushing, NY to Stafford Flood and Bertha Janecek Flood. John is survived by his loving wife, Pauline, sons Steven and wife Jennifer; William and wife Amy; and Paul and wife Shannon; grandchildren Liana, Samuel, Caleb, Jonathan, and Kayeron. He is survived by his brothers Thomas and wife Judy; Michael and wife Tina; and predeceased by sister, Susan, who is survived by her husband, Joseph Welch, and many nieces and nephewsJohn served as a SSGT in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he met his first wife, Cheryl Sadosky Garrepy. The couple eventually moved to Vernon, Connecticut, where they raised their three sons. As a dedicated father, John coached his sons in various sports, such as baseball, basketball, and football as well as serving on the boosters for the wrestling team.As a devoted Catholic his entire life, John was an active member of St. Bernard's church in Rockville, Connecticut; serving as a eucharistic minister and active member of the soup kitchen.John always excelled in mathematics and eventually received his degree from Central Connecticut State University. He worked as a Computer Programmer at Travelers Insurance Company and Computer Associates in Hartford, Connecticut, then finished out his career at MEMIC in Portland, Maine. Always thinking of others throughout his lifetime, he donated over 4 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.After marrying Pauline, they moved to New Gloucester, Maine in 2000. John was actively involved at St. Gregory's Church, Gray, Maine, at the Parish of the Holy Eucharist. He served as a eucharisitc minister and participated in many church activities. During their marriage, they both enjoyed traveling the eastern coast together and enjoyed fine dining at many local restaurants. In 2013, he and Pauline renewed their vows at the Vatican in Rome, Italy.The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who provided care at New England Cancer Institute, Maine Medical Center, VA Centers, Kindred Healthcare, and Gosnell Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Needy Fund at the Parish of the Holy Eucharist, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth, Maine 04105.Services for Mr Flood will be private at this time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Parish of the Holy Eucharist, St. Gregory Church in Gray. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford. There will be a public celebration of John's life held at a date to be announced after restrictions from COVID have been lifted.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
