John Edwin Gagnon, age 53, died unexpectedly in Naples, Florida on March 26, 2025. He was with family when he passed away.
John was born on June 11, 1971 to Joseph and Cynthia Gagnon in Danvers, Massachusetts. As a child he played soccer, was an altar boy at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, was a member of the Boy Scouts, enjoyed celebrating Christmas, Easter and birthdays with his extended family, and spending summers in Laconia, New Hampshire.
As an adult John participated in online gaming, traveling with friends, driving his sports car, going to Red Sox games with friends, and collecting various gadgets and knives. He will be remembered as a highly intelligent, sincere, shy, and gentle person who wore his heart on his sleeve. Laughing and making others laugh along with his stories made him a joy to be around. He had an introspective side and he had a multitude of thoughtful, keen insights to share about the complexities of life. John was adventurous and thrived in Fire Island, Las Vegas, Florida and Belize.
John graduated from Saint John’s Preparatory High School and Stevens Institute of Technology where he studied Computer Science. He had an affinity for computers from a young age and his family often relied upon his troubleshooting skills, which he offered freely. He made many friends during his college years and during his time living in New York and Florida.
He is survived by his siblings, Mike (Laura) Gagnon of Londonderry, NH, Joanne (Tom) Cusack of Sanford, Maine, and Janet (Carlos) Hinton of West Warwick, RI. He loved his nieces and nephews, Alejandro, Hillary, Antonio, Hannah, Joseph, Jacob and Peter and his many cousins: the Huuskonens, Collettes, Dandurands, McDonnells and Salters. He will be missed by his friends, especially his longtime buddy, Al. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marcie Gagnon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 26th at St Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Charities.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Black-Heald Walker Funeral Home of Sanford-Springvale.
