SOUTH PORTLAND John C. Coyne, 75, retired South Portland Fire Fighter, died Monday, August 22, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. Born in Portland, John was the son of the late Martin and Claudia (Crowley) Coyne. He graduated from South Portland High School Class of 1958. Following High School, John married Joan Patchell in 1960. John was employed with the City of South Portland as a Fire Fighter for over 25 years. During his time with the fire department, he received several commendations for his courageous service to the community. In addition to his work with the fire department, John owned and operated Johns Service where he prided himself in offering reliable and fair auto care. John was a hard worker who had a witty personality and could make anyone laugh. He enjoyed spending time at the family house in Andover, Maine that he and Joan built together. Above all else, John was incredibly family oriented. He loved and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family pets. He will be deeply missed. John is predeceased by his brother, James Coyne. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Coyne of South Portland; children, Timothy Coyne and wife Karen of South Portland, Patrick Coyne and wife Paula of South Portland and Kari Voelker and husband David of South Portland; sister, Elaine Kitchen and husband Bob of NY; grandchildren, Patrick, Kelly, Erin, Alexa, Carly and Johnathan; great-grandchildren, Mary and Riley. Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday, August 27 from 1-4PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
