South Portland – Joel M. Link, 81, passed away on March 1, 2025, with his wife by his side. He was born on July 19, 1943, in St. Louis, MO to the late Emerson and Nancy (Smith) Link. Joel graduated from St. George High School in Tenants Harbor in 1961. Shortly after, he joined the Air Force, where he proudly served for 28 years before retiring in 2000. On May 8, 1970, Joel married Cynthia in Tenants Harbor, and together they raised their son, Martin. Following his military career, Joel spent 10 years driving trucks for Martin Marietta. He also enjoyed sewing and tailoring, with a special passion for working on military uniforms, adding ranks and insignias for many years. A devoted fan of all New England sports teams, Joel found great joy in following their successes. Joel was an active member of the South Portland VFW #832, and then later he belonged to the Deering Post #6859 in Portland, American Legion Post #17, and the Rockland Elks Club. He was known for enjoying a good cocktail and spending time with friends and family. Joel was predeceased by his brothers, E. Blaine and R. Stevens. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia; his son, Martin; granddaughter, Logan Marie Link; and many extended family members. He will be remembered for his dedication to service, his craftsmanship, and the love he shared with those closest to him.

“My deepest condolences to Cindi and all your Family for your loss of Joel. I served with MSgt Joel Link for many years in 265th ANG. He was a true professional at his job taking care of our training schools and more. He served with a big smile and a great sense of humor. A very kind soul. R.I.P. Brother.”
I had the privilege of working with Joel for about seven years at SPANGS before he retired. His knowledge of his work and his selfless assistance to everyone with their training needs was nothing less than spectacular. His sense of humor is what will be missed the most. He was a unique individual. R.I.P. Joel.
I was fortunate to work with Joel for over six years during my Air National Guard career. Joel was extremely upbeat with the perfect sense of dry humor for all occasions. May he Rest-in-Peace!

His humor will live on in his absence. Cyndy was his better half and always will be. He lived a good life though we will all miss him dearly. My best to his family that remains, both of blood and of affiliation.
My heart goes out to Cindy and her family. Joe was a great guy and I enjoyed seeing he and Cindy in the daily dining room for lunch at BRH. He will be sadly missed
My sincere condolences go out to the Link family. Joel was the Training Manager for the 266th CBCS/MEANG. He was always able to get us into whatever training schools we wanted to get to help us with our careers. If memory serves; he’s the only retiree to receive the lifetime membership to the Consolidated Club.
You’ve been, and always will be, missed, MSgt. Link.
