Joan Rice Lausier

SCARBOROUGH - Joan Rice Lausier of Scarborough died on February 21, 2013 after a brief battle with leukemia. Joan was born in Liverpool, England, on March 22, 1944, the daughter of Charles and Ellen Rice. In January 1972, while working in Augsburg, Germany, she met her soul mate, and love of her life, Paul R. Lausier of Augusta, Maine. He was assigned to Germany after returning from Vietnam. The couple married the following August. Paul rejoined the Sears Management Training Program after completing his service with the army, and his job entailed many moves along the East Coast. During that time, Joan worked at Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Presque Isle, Maine, and the Loretto Geriatric Center in Syracuse, New York, before they finally settled in Scarborough, Maine in 1980. Joan then worked for Troubh, Heisler Pampiano for 18 years, and then spent 3years with another law firm. She then joined Spinnaker Trust as a Trust Administrator where she worked for 6 years. She then retired to join her husband in their jointly owned business, Oak Hill Beverage in Scarborough. She loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren and travelling with her husband visiting family and friends. She loved all kinds of music, loved to dance, was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking. Above all, she had a deep and abiding love of her Catholic faith. She is predeceased by her son, Dennis, in May 2010, her parents, a brother and a sister. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Paul, Son Craig and his wife, Laura of Vienna, Virginia, her beloved grandchildren, Kora, Tyler, Aiden and Brennan; sister, Margaret; brothers Tom and Cahal; and many nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605 or to Melanoma Foundation of New England, 11 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner, Suite 1005, Concord, MA 01742. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. She will be laid to rest in the spring at Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough.
