Portland – Jeffrey “Jeff” Fox, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 5, 2025. Known for his quick wit, warm smile, love of family, and all-around gregarious nature, Jeff lived a full and active life rooted in Maine.
Jeff was the son of Philip C. and Nilda Bartlett Fox. He attended Hatch Prep School (now The Winchendon School), where he excelled in athletics as a proud seven-letterman, earning All-State honors in football and baseball. He later graduated from Nichols College with a degree in Business Administration.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army with the elite 82nd Airborne Division, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry, where he held Top Secret clearance and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his military service, Jeff worked briefly before returning to Portland to join the family business, N.T. Fox Lumber Company, where he served as Vice President. He later held leadership roles in regional lumber associations and remained active in Portland’s business community.
Jeff met his wife, Brenda, on a blind date in 1975, and after a five-year engagement, they married on July 5, 1980. They were together for 51 years and married for 46. Together they raised two sons, Brandon and Cameron, and shared a love of travel, new experiences, and many wonderful friends and family along the way.
He loved snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, camping, and boating on Sebago Lake and Casco Bay. He enjoyed concerts, theater, and Friday nights with his Bruno buddies—always greeting everyone with a big smile that could light up a room.
Jeff was known for his favorite sayings, often reminding those around him that “it’s not a major, major” whenever life’s little frustrations arose, or chuckling, “some people do things just to make you ask questions.” He was a man who rarely showed weakness, facing life’s challenges with quiet strength and good humor.
He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas B. Fox, and many dear friends. Jeff is survived by his wife, Brenda Fox of Portland, ME; son Brandon and his wife Lucy of Haverhill, MA, and their son Brycen; son Cameron and his daughter Bayleigh of Lyman; and sister-in-law, Donalene Fox of Port Richey, FL.
Arrangements are under the care of Conroy-Tully Walker Cremation, Funeral & Gathering Center, 300 Allen Avenue, Portland. A celebration of his life will be held after the holiday season.
Jeff will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
