Hopkinton, NH- Jeanne (Bassett) Prewitt of Hopkinton, NH passed away peacefully on September 24 , 2025.
Jeanne was born April 101937 in Yonkers, NY to Catherine and Kendall Bassett. She spent her high school years in Pleasantville, NY, while her summers were spent in Blue Hill, Maine. Her love of Blue Hill brought her to the University of Maine Orono. It was at UMO where she met her one love, John (Jack) Prewitt. They graduated in 1959 and were married soon after.
Jeanne and Jack would eventually settle in Granby, CT where they would raise their 3 children, Jan, Jon and Jay. Jeanne was the quintessential Mom including the never empty cookie jar. Jeanne was always game for adventure and was the driving force for the family trip cross country in the VW camper with the JJJJJ license plate.
A change in job for Jack led the family to Hopkinton, NH in 1980. Jeanne and Jack would enjoy all that New Hampshire had to offer with hiking, canoeing, golfing and skiing. Jeanne had her last ski run in 2021 at Pat’s Peak and hiked Mt. Washington with her kids and grandkids at age 79. Jeanne and Jack fell in love with lake life and found their camp on Cow Island on Lake Winnipesaukee. Jeanne cherished the summer gatherings at the camp with her family and warmed her heart to see how much everyone enjoyed the camp.
After Jack died too early in 1998, Jeanne would retire as secretary from the therapy department at Concord Hospital. In retirement, Jeanne would enjoy her many passions. She was an avid reader,walked many miles, made quilts and needlepointed christmas stockings for all 7 of her grandkids. Jeanne enjoyed traveling and shared many trips with her friend Anne.
Jeanne leaves behind her daughter, Jan Prewitt-Small (Alan Small) of Wells Maine.Sons, Jon Prewitt (Laura Prewitt) of Webster, NH and Jay Prewitt (Anne Marie Prewitt) of Eliot Maine. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, Lauren Drigotas (Ethan Drigotas), Jason Small (Hannah Small), Cara Small (Tom Licence), Jack Prewitt, Alexa Prewitt, Hadley Prewitt and Kendall Prewitt and 2 great grandchildren, Mae and Rory Drigotas.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack Prewitt and sister Beth Dalnegro. She is survived by her brother Kendall Bassett.
