Jason R. Fowler

November 9, 2012
SCARBOROUGH-Jason R. Fowler, 31, of Scarborough, died Friday morning in Gorham as a result of an automobile accident. Jason was born in Portland, a son of Richard J. and Wendy L. Fowler. He attended Scarborough schools and was a 1999 graduate of Scarborough High School. He grew up on the family farm on Pleasant Hill Rd. in Scarborough. As a young man he helped out with the family business Pleasant Hill Gardens. Jason's lifelong passion with auto racing began as a child. His family was deeply engrained in auto racing and the activities surrounding the Beech Ridge Speedway. At age 11 he began racing in the go-kart series. His mother and father were very supportive of all of his activities, but especially proud of all his accomplishments at the track. Over the next few years, Jason and his family traveled around the State of Maine and throughout New England so that Jason could compete in races. In his late teens, Jason moved up as a driver in the Super Sportsman Series with late model cars. He was named the Most Outstanding New Driver in 1998 and won the Championship in 1999. In 2000 he moved up to the Pro Series winning Rookie of The Year in 2000. In 2001, Jason was diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder. This illness plagued Jason and his family over the next 11 years. He was unable to drive competitively after the diagnosis. After he and his family had taken some time off from racing, they came back with driver Mike Rowe in 2009 and won the 2009 Pro Series Championship with Jason as a valuable crew member. Jason will be remembered for his outstanding personality, his "gift of gab", his warm smile and his never ending passion for racing. Every day of his life he dreamed of putting his fire suit back on and returning as a driver. He was predeceased by an uncle who shared his love of racing, Ralph "Ricky" Fowler in 2001. Survivors include his parents of Scarborough; a brother Michael J. Fowler of Gorham;maternal grandparents, Kathy and Walter Suchareski of Punta Gorda, Florida; paternal aunts and uncles, Cindy and Paul Webber of Gorham, Jennie Hunnewell of Casco, Rose and Lenny Lawrence of Portland, Mary Lou Napolitano of Portland, Gloria and Keith Larsen of Colorado, Lynda and Mike Johnson of Scarborough; maternal aunt Shelly Caselden of Florida; maternal uncle, Randy Waycotte of Old Orchard; several cousins, and his special friend "Rusty" a family dog. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Rev. Philip Shearman will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough. Those desiring may make donations to: Save Speed for the Track, c/o Zoe Landry, 52 Heath Street. Dick, Wendy Mike I am lost for words after attending Jason’s funeral. Much too young to leave the world, Jason was so full of energy through ups and downs he seemed always full of laughs and jokes. I know when worked for me he always spoke about his family and you see how proud he was of each of you. He lived life to its fullest and touched allot of people in so many ways and his smile was contagious, his present brought electricity to a room and he had a heart bigger than his body. To my dearest family, some things I’d like to say… but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I’m writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there’s no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight. Remember that I’m with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you. It’s good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they’ll be here later on. I need you here badly; you’re part of my plan. There’s so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day’s chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you….in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn’t understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o’er. I’m closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I’d like it for you too… that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who’s in sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night……My day was not in vain. And now I am contented….that my life has been worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you’re walking down the street, and you’ve got me on your mind; I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it’s time for you to go…. from that body to be free, remember you’re not going…..you’re coming here to me. Know I am with you all the time. May you find peace Richie

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dick, Wendy, Mike and the extended family. As an employee of Beech Ridge Motor Speedway I got the chance to see the Fowler racing family from the inside. Fierce competators on the track but fair. Always working to keep their cars up front. I also saw the family sharing their knowledge and skills to other competators when they had gotten all they could out of their day. When I came to the Ridge and first met Jason I wasn,t sure who he was with he had his nose under so many hoods and seemed to be running from car to car a lot. But that was Jason breathing in the track and the sport of racing helping others as he has learned from his dad one of the best along side his brother Mike also. I really enjoyed watching Jason around the cars because he was so at ease in all he knew about racing. You,d think he was born at the track which was pretty close to true.I,ll never forget the smile which was earnest nor his warm greeting whenever he saw me. I,ll never forget you Jason my friend, nor the passion you had for racing. I,m sure your smiling from above and trying to get a few more rpms out of the angels cause if their there you,ll find them RIP my friend in peace you,ll rest
– JIM DIXON
