Janice E. Roy
Janice E. (Doyen) Roy, 74, died on June 2, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.She was born in Rumford on January 20, 1942, to Dana B. and Dorothy P. (Bemis) Doyen. Janice graduated from Andover High School in the class of 1960. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington. She was also a graduate of the Catechetical Leaders Institute sponsored by the Diocese of Portland, and held at St. Joseph's College. She also graduated from the Center of Parish Ministry in Auburn. A former Communicant of St. Anastasios and St. John Parish (now Holy Savior) she was the Religious Education Coordinator for the parish for several years.She also served for St. Andre's Parish in Biddeford as a Religious Education Coordinator. She and her daughter Kelly were lectors while members of the parish. Later in her life, Janice worked for School District 56 in Searsport as a Child Associate. After her family was grown, she and her husband moved to Florida where she became the Director of Children's Religious Education at the Catholic Community of St. Paul in Leesburg. She married Joseph M. Roy and together they raised four children and celebrated 51 years of marriage.Following her husband's death she became a parishioner of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish where she joined the Tuesday morning Prayer Group, the Ladies of St. Anne, and Hannah's Sisters. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She loved spending summers with her husband Joe at their son's camp on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. She enjoyed quilting, playing cribbage, reading, knitting, walking, baking and loved working with children and their families, and the catechists in the three parishes in which she served. Janice is predeceased by her husband who passed away in March of 2012, their son Philip "Toby" Roy, a sister, Judith Hall, a half sister Dorothy Spaulding, and her parents.Survivors include a son, Russell A. Roy of Chester, N.H., two daughters, Leslie R. Heald of Scarborough and Kelly A. Perry of Limerick, six grandchildren, Adam and Michael Cardinal, Clara and Katie Roy and Jacob and Samuel Perry, a sister Janet Martin of Weld, a brother Bert Doyen of Brimfield, MA., and several nieces nephews, and cousins.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford.
