Wiscasset - Janice Parvin, 80, passed away January 14, 2023 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born on September 22, 1942 in Augusta, a daughter of the late Jams Elgin Hall and Charlotte (Clark) Charest. For 25 years, Janice was a dedicated employee with L.L. Bean, working in the returns and repairs department. Never one to sit still, and always enjoying visiting with people, Janice was also a professional hairdresser for 60 years. During her time as a hairdresser, she made many lifelong friends. She also used her incredible talent to serve as a hairdresser for the Conroy-Tully Funeral Home where she was a valued member of the funeral home staff for over 30 years. She was passionate about her work at the funeral home, often dropping everything to make a loved one beautiful, allowing a grieving family the opportunity to have comfort while saying goodbye. When she wasn't working, she liked to spend her time baking, doing arts and crafts, gardening, and shopping to find just the right items to make her home cozy and welcoming. Upon walking into her home you would be greeted by a country feel right down to her collection of rooster items. She loved spending breakfast with her family at IHOP. She often shared stories and memories (especially the time when she drove from Maine to California in a Volkswagen Beetle with 2 adults, 3 kids, and a cat!). Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she was able to spend this past one with her family gathered together in her Wiscasset home. Above all else, Janice was dedicated to and proud of her family. She always gave to others which brought her an immense sense of joy and fulfillment. She was known for sharing her special chocolate chip cookies and fudge with family, friends and co-workers, just because it made others happy. Her caring nature allowed her to selflessly provide exceptional care for her mother, Charlotte and brother, Richard for nearly 10 years. Spending her time with the love of her life Kenny Chamberland made her so happy. Her nickname was “The Blonde” and Kenny always joked with his friends that whatever she wanted, she got. And this was true. She was a woman filled with joy, seeing each day as a gift. She had a positive attitude about everything, even as she battled cancer. She never complained in life and embraced every challenge with grace and her great sense of humor, quick wit, and a light, silly laugh. She was generous with her time and would help anyone in need.. Her presence lit up the room. She exuded true beauty inside and out. Simply put, she always took care of her family and friends, and was a bright light in this world. Janice will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, Janice is predeceased by her step-father, Gerard Charest; brothers, David Hall, Richard Charest; step-sister, Simonne Burns. She is survived by her fiancé, Ken Chamberland of Woolwich; daughter, Jennifer Collins of Lisbon, sons, John and wife Colleen Parvin of Gorham, Gregory and wife Monica Turcotte of Saco; sisters, Christine Sonia of Wiscasset, Rachel Stinson of Woolwich; brothers, James Hall of Yarmouth, Joseph Leo Charest of Colorado; grandchildren, Andrew Turcotte, LIndsay Turcotte, Cody Collins, Ashley Parvin, Ethan Michaud, Stephen Matoian, and Aiden Matoian. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland. To honor Janice's memory please spread kindness and joy to those around you be it friends or strangers. Small acts of kindness were one of Janice's special gifts.

  1. My husband, Austin & I will surely miss Janice. She was a wonderful friend whom we worked with at LLBean for ten years. Our thoughts & prayers go out to her family. She now is at peace. God Bless.

  2. Was just browsing looking for some friends and found her obituary. I am just so shocked. Love to the family..John

  3. Jan’s legacy will be of loving unconditionally, loyal to a fault, being selfless, and one of the funniest girls there was. And her beautiful smile and giggly laugh will forever grace memories of her.

  4. Jan was devoted to her beloved family, beloved Kenny and beloved friends. She treasured them all. You never had to doubt what she felt for you.

  5. I wish I could tell you, but it is rather personal….just know she had the best humor about herself. I loved that about her. She would say things I could so relate to!

  6. Jan was famous for her baking, and cooking, which she shared with everyone. Her Chocolate Chip Cookies, Quiche Fudge and so many other yummies delighted all who were lucky to receive them.

  7. Oh my goodness….that girl loved Christmas. This past Christmas was one she totally looked forward to sharing with her beautiful family. She had her shopping and wrapping done for months.

  8. Jan loved to go to breakfast at the Marketplace Restaurant, in Wiscasset. We always had the best of times there. She loved to decorate her home…Roosters and Angels were in abundance. She loved gardening and getting bouquets of beautiful flowers from Kenny, even for no special occasion….just because.

  9. Jan knew my favorite quote was: “Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” Jan, I was honored to have many of those moments with you my dear friend.

  10. That life is precious and to love as hard as you can, with whatever time you have. She never complained, just chose to live her life as best she could. A true warrior.

  11. Just being Jan! She would do anything for anyone who needed her help. She didn’t need to be asked….she just would do it!

  12. I want to share something lighthearted of her, for I know she would like it if I do. Jan loved her morning treat of Strawberry Shortcake. Kenny would make sure she had fresh strawberries, cream and she would have them atop biscuits. She tried to cut back, because she was worried about gaining weight, but told me she didn’t think she could give it up!

  13. Kenny is my beloved cousin and he wanted Jan and I to meet, because he felt we would bond and become good friends. He was so right.

  14. I am so blessed to have had Jan as my friend. As the lyrics of James Taylor’s song….”You’ve Got a Friend” were written…..I hope I brightened up her darkest days. I hope her family’s and Kenny’s fond and loving memories of her will comfort them. I know I am grateful for so many that I have. I loved her. She was a bright light in our lives. I miss her and will keep her in my heart always.

  15. I am absolutely heartbroken to learn of this beautiful woman’s passing. She loved her family and Kenny limitlessly and always had so much kindness and love to shower on her friends. I was so blessed to be a recipient and I will miss her more than I could ever express. We were late coming into each other’s lives but what a blessing it was to have the time we had. We tried to get together frequently because we enjoyed each other so much. Just imagine two septuagenarians laughing like a couple of teenagers. We had so much fun in the toughest of times and I will carry Jan in my heart forever. We will meet again.

  16. Reading the obituary and seeing such a beautiful story was incredible. Janice embodies a soul that we all should strive for. So sorry for your loss
