Janice Jerger

Mrs. Janice Jerger passed away October 14th, 2017 in Naperville, IL at age 87. Mrs. Jerger was born Janice Holland in Springvale, ME on September 26th, 1930. She graduated from Sanford HS and Nasson College in Sanford, ME. She worked as a hospital dietician in Pawling, NY, then drove cross-country to Riverside, California to teach Home Economics at Ramona HS from 1958-1964. It was there that she met her future husband, David Jerger, also a teacher. They were married in 1962, and Janice soon retired from teaching to focus on raising a family; however, in the 1980s-90s she spent many happy years as a popular substitute teacher at Sierra Middle School.Janice was active in the Little League/Pony League and Ramona HS Band booster clubs in support of her sons. She was an expert cook and baker and enjoyed reading historical fiction, needlepoint, gardening and caring for her potted African violets. She remained a proud Daughter of Maine throughout her life, retaining her Yankee stoicism and sharp, dry wit until the day she died.Preceded in death by her husband David, she is survived by her sons, Steven Jerger of Naperville, IL and Christopher Jerger of Crestline, CA, as well as grandchildren Emilie and George Jerger. She is also survived her brothers, Elwin Holland Jr., of Fredericksburg, VA and Malcolm Holland of Vernon, CT.A graveside memorial service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, Maine on Friday, November 3rd at 1:00pm.
