Janet Louise Blessing

February 3, 1947 ~ February 10, 2026

Portland – Janet Louise Blessing, 79, passed away February 10th in Casco, Maine surrounded by family & loved ones after a courageous battle with serious health issues.

A loving mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend, Janet attended Cathedral Grammar School before graduating from Portland High School in 1965. She attended Westbrook Community College as a secretarial student before her marriage to David L Blessing Sr. Janet resided in Rumford then Portland, Maine, where she lived until her passing while in hospice at The Casco Village Assisted Care Facility. Janet worked at Deering Ice Cream, before spending many years as an in-home caregiver.

Janet was always helping and caring for others. She was beloved by so many because of her generosity, kindness, humor and beaming smile. Janet’s passion was her family, her children David and Pamela, who were her proudest achievements and her grandchildren who filled her life with laughter and joy. She loved family celebrations, flowers, gardening, traveling, baking and being at the beach. As a single mother she worked tirelessly, sacrificing to provide the best for her children who attended Saint Joseph’s School. Janet was the eldest of six and became the matriarch of the family after her mother’s passing. She will be remembered not only for her thoughtfulness but for the joy she brought into the world.

Janet is survived by her children Pamela Bridges, and David L. Blessing Jr and his wife Pamela Kiernan Blessing.; ex-husband David Blessing Sr and his wife Linda Blessing; siblings, Peter Giampetruzzi, David Giampetruzzi, Nina Kamman, Robert Giampetruzzi, Steven Giampetruzzi; and grandchildren, Colin Blessing, Mat Bridges, Nicholas Blessing and Sophia Blessing, who will dearly miss their Grammy Janny. She was preceded in death by her father, Nino Giampetruzzi; mother, Roberta Dow Giampetruzzi; and granddaughter, Meghan Bridges.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 27th at 10am in the Chapel at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland, Maine.

Our entire family would like to thank the amazing, caring staff at The Casco Village Assisted Care Facility who took such incredible care of Mom during her final months.

  3. My dear friend, how do I let you go after 40+ years of friendship? We were like sisters and had such great talks, walks, hot fudge ( you made the best!)
