WESTBROOK - Janet M. Fitzpatrick, 98, formerly of Forest Avenue, Portland, died Friday, February 14, 2014, at Springbrook Center. Daughter of John and Josephine (Bernard) Wright, Janet was born in Portage Lake on November 11, 1915. Her family lived in Ashland before moving to Caribou. After graduating from Caribou in 1934, she attended Eastern Academy in Bangor. Janet owned and operated Janet's Beauty Salon on Congress Street in Portland for thirty-five years before retiring in 1977. She lived on Mayland Street for a number of years, nearly always in the presence of her adopted pets. In 1994, Janet moved to Deering Pavilion where she met Paul Fitzpatrick, whom she married on November 7, 1998. Janet most recently lived at Springbrook Center where she enjoyed taking part in social activities and outings. She is predeceased by her husband who died June 7, 2009; a brother, Monsignor Edward Courcy; and dear friend Margaret (Midge) Grace. She is survived by her godson and nephew, David St. Clair and his wife Sandra of Windham, their two sons, great-nephews, David St. Clair and his wife Nancy, and their children Jen, Kim, and Daniel; and Rocco St. Clair and his wife Staci, and their children Jazmyn, Trevor, and Jacob; dear friend and sister in law, Jane Fitzpatrick of Portland; faithful god-daughter Sandra Capriola and her husband Steve, and their children Jennifer, Kimberly, and Kevin; many cousins and friends; and her two ever-present cats. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the devoted care provided by the staff at Springbrook. Visiting hours will be held 3:00-5:00 pm, Monday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Tuesday, at St Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardiner.
