Jane B. Hasson

Jane B. Hasson, 72, of Portland, passed away on January 7, 2014 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her loving family at her side. She was born in Portland on October 1, 1941, daughter of Katherine Donovan Hasson and John Hasson, Sr. She grew up in Portland and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She was a licensed Histological Technician and worked at Maine Medical Center and Brighton Medical Center. Later in life she resided at Deering Pavilion in Portland. She was a woman of diverse interests including travel, music, and art. She often recalled her visit to Rome as her favorite trip. She sang in the church choir for many years and surrounded herself with music, especially classical pieces. In her later years she took up painting, which, as it turns out, gave her much joy. A true Mainer, she especially enjoyed the outdoors in winter. She fondly recalled that as a youngster she had fun skating on Harvey's Pond, and sledding down Madison Street. Later she would become a regular Sugarloaf skier. Jane was a devout Catholic with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She prayed the Rosary each day to her, and her love for her family was unsurpassed. More importantly, however, was how she exemplified the Christian spirit. Throughout her life, even at times when she did not have much, she insisted on giving to those in need, especially the poor. She is survived by two brothers, John Hasson of South Portland and David Hasson of Portland; two sisters, Elizabeth Plourde and her husband Robert of Hobe Sound, Florida, and Elaine Thornton of Portland; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 11, 2014 at 10:00am at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Visiting Nurses Association, the Mercy Hospital Emergency Unit, and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their tremendous care and compassion. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
