James S. Noel
SHAPLEIGH James S. Noel 54 a long time resident of Shapleigh died Sunday at Maine Medical Center, Portland following several months of declining health, due to a re-emerging cancer. Jim was born in Portland Feb. 28, 1952 a son of Sidney L. & Katherine E. (Kilmartin) Noel. He attended Portland schools and was a graduate of Deering High School class of 1970. He also attended St. Joseph College in Standish and the University of New England in Biddeford. Jim was a 'Master Plumber' he owned and operated Noel Plumbing & Heating of Shapleigh from 1984 to 1995. He was a former selectman and school board member of Shapleigh and was an active member of the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission.Jim was employed as the CEO (code enforcement officer) and plumbing inspector and later the town planner for the town of So. Berwick for a combined total of 3 1/2 years. In 2001 and until the time of his death Jim was CEO & Town Planner for the Town of Kittery.He was proud that he managed a championship Portland Little League baseball team in the mid 1970's Jim was also a certified scuba diver, and was a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do who also participated in numerous AAU competitions throughout the US. He participated in the Peaks to Portland swimming challenge.He dabbled as a real estate broker and home inspections, and had his own christmas tree farm . Jim reconstructed a farm house that was destroyed by the 1947 forest fires.His faithful canine German Shephard 'Maggie' whom was his best friend over 14 years died some time ago.Jim is survived by his parents Sidney & Katherine Noel of Falmouth along with three brothers, Kevin of Falmouth, Dennis of Portland and Matthew and his wife Laurie of Windham, two sisters, Katherine Noel of Windham and Cheryl Noel of Falmouth , along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a great niece and many cousins.Visiting hours will be Friday 4-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home 29 Winter St., Sanford. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church. Burial will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that contributions may be made to Animal Welfare Society, Inc. PO Box 43 W.
