James “Jim” G. Bannister, 53, of Cairo, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Born on October 16, 1971, in Sanford, Maine, Jim was the son of George and Rachel (Grenier) Bannister. He attended Acton Elementary School and was a graduate of Wells High School. In his youth, he was an altar server for several years at St. Ignatius Church and was an active member of the Boy Scouts.

Following high school, Jim proudly served in the United States Army. he began a 13-year career with The Home Depot, where his hard work and dedication led to several promotions and transfers—from Maine to Tennessee, and most recently to Georgia.

Jim had a love for travel and embraced the opportunity to live in different places throughout his life, with particularly fond memories of his time spent in Barcelona. He was also artistic and enjoyed expressing his creativity. He was a talented wood carver, enjoyed playing computer games, listening to music, attending concerts with his sister, and watching New England Patriots games. Occasionally, he enjoyed golfing with his father.

Jim was a trustworthy and loyal friend, known for his easygoing nature, kind heart, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He was well-liked by all who knew him, never had a harsh word to say about anyone, and will be remembered for his gentle demeanor. He left this world too soon and will be deeply missed.

After the recent passing of his best friend Kevin, Jim lovingly took in Kevin’s dog, Harley, who became his cherished companion. Jim left this world too soon and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving parents, George and Rachel Bannister of Sanford; his sister Ruth Hauslein and her husband John of Sanford, his uncles Raymond and Donald Bannister, and Conrad Grenier and his wife Judy, all of Sanford; his aunts Claire Devoid of Springvale, Claire Fleming and Ellen Lehoux and her husband Bob of Sanford, Pamela Mason of Monmouth, Jeanne Baker of New York; and many beloved cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 9 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Black Heald and Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Tuesday, June 10 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave. Sanford.
