James G. Cudmore

Cape Elizabeth-James G. Cudmore, 81, of Phoebe's Way died peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. James (Jim) was born on January 6, 1939 in Medford, MA, the son of the late Arthur S. and Mary Elizabeth (Mahoney) Cudmore. He was the brother of the late Arthur Cudmore (wife Cathy), Bill Cudmore (wife Margaret) and Ann Cudmore Baker. He attended local schools and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University. On 9/9/67 Jim married Carole V. Grandmont and together they shared 52 years of marriage. After graduating from Tufts Jim worked at Digital Equipment Corporation for 31 years. He found his lengthy career at Digital challenging and fulfilling, and eventually retired as Vice President, Operations Staff. Jim was an avid reader who loved to learn. He could fix almost anything at home, volunteered by teaching children science and reading, and most recently did yoga with his wife and daughter. His favorite place to vacation was in Chatham on Cape Cod with his family. He was most proud of watching his daughters and grandchildren grow up. Jim is survived by his wife, Carole Cudmore of Cape Elizabeth; two daughters, Jennifer Maguire and her husband Brad Maguire of TN and grandchildren; Ryan, Katelyn and Erin Maguire; and Kristen Flynn and her partner Christian McBrierty, of South Portland. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine (www.gsfb.org), an organization that Jim consistently supported.
