Jacqueline Edna Briggs Gerrish was born January 3, 1930 to James E. and Arline Drown Briggs in Sanford, Maine. Her initials being the same as her father's J.E.B., which was why her name was chosen by her parents. By age 2, the family moved to Alfred where she spent the next 90 years. She graduated from Alfred High School in 1948. On May 8, 1949 she married Roland Gerrish. After his service in the US Navy during the Korean War, they purchased Middle Branch Farm on Gore Road, a mile down the road from the Briggs farm on the hill. They ran the farm for several years while raising their family; son, James Roland and daughter, Mary Sue.Jackie spent several years in the 60's being Alfred's Avon lady. She enjoyed her visits with the ladies of Alfred bringing them Avon products. She worked in the fall in the Gile Orchards picking apples. She worked in retail industry at the McCullen's 5 and 10 Cent Store on Main Street, Sanford as a teenager and later at King's Department Store.Jackie had a green thumb in her home gardens as well as working at Alfred Florist, Huff's Florist, and Browning's Greenhouse. In her home, there are many plants she has nurtured for many years. Jacki enjoyed quilting and made several for family and friends. She was one of the ladies who got together to make a community quilt. Jackie helped her husband, Roland with his businesses: R.E. Gerrish & Son and Gerrish Corporation, as the bookkeeper and rental property manager. Jackie also helped with the care of several elderly people in the Alfred and Sanford area.Jackie lived a long and full life and died peacefully with son and daughter at her side on March 3, 2022.Jackie is predeceased by her parents, James E. Briggs and Arline (Drown) Briggs; her husband of 62 years, Roland E. Gerrish; sister, Constance A. Briggs.She is survived by her sister, Joyce Wagner and brother, Paul Briggs; her son, James R. Gerrish and wife, Julie; daughter, Mary Susan Winn and husband, Arnold; Grandsons: Jeb Gerrish, and wife, Jennifer; Johnathan Winn and partner, Chelsy; Jess Gerrish and wife, Bethani; Timothy Winn and wife, Sarah and Thomas Winn and wife, Jessica; Granddaughters: Lacey Winn and Jaime Gerrish Chipman and husband, Wesley; 13 Great Grandchildren: Ava Gerrish, Ella Gerrish, Sydney Cyr, Brooklyn Cyr, Kristian Gerrish, Kallie Winn, Kayden Winn, Aiden Reynolds, Nathan Reynolds, Eilish Winn, Freyja Winn, Reese Chipman and Ryder Chipman.A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 12th at 11AM at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
