Ismay Eloise Lister
Ismay Eloise Lister, 94, of Springvale, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 9, 2008. She was born on February 14, 1914 in South Paris, a daughter of Elmer and Minola (Buck) Aldrich of Norway, Maine. Ismay was one of five children. Her father was the owner of Snowcraft Inc., which made snowshoes and different style sleds. She attended Norway High School and graduated from Nasson College in Springvale.She met her husband of fifty-seven years Edward Lister at the Springvale Free Baptist Church where she became a very active member serving on many different boards and committees. Ismay started teaching at the Shapleigh Elementary School and taught most of her career with the Sanford School Department as a fourth grade teacher. She retired after teaching twenty-five years. One of her favorite pastimes was cooking for her family, believing that good health started with good meals. She spent many, many hours knitting, crocheting, and sewing various items for her loved ones. Her dedication to her family was also shown by attendance and participation in the many activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She was also a member of Eastern Star. Her dedication to serve also reached out to others through charitable contributions and volunteer work. One of her favorite times was volunteering at the Sanford Food Pantry where she continued volunteering to age ninety-two.She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Lister who passed away on March 11, 1997.Ismay is survived by two beloved sons, Roger E. Lister of Lebanon, and Robert E. Lister of Limington, who are both retired teachers. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Scott Lister, Joanne Lister Lee, Carolyn Sprague, Robert Lister Jr., Susan Johnson and John Lister, six great-grandchildren. Her quality of living and love for others are an inspiration for all who knew her.A funeral service for Ismay will take place on Monday, May 12th at 2pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. Visiting hours will start at 12noon until the time of the funeral service. Members of the Eastern Star will be conducting a memorial service for Ismay at 1:45pm.
