Irene Perkins, 92, of Lebanon, died on December 29, 2017 at Greenwood Center in Sanford. She was born on August 16, 1925 to Charlie and Nina (Bigwood) Roy, at home in Springvale. She attended Edison School in Sanford and graduated from Sanford High School in1944. Irene often spoke of working at the McClellan's Store on Main St. in Sanford and working in the local mills. She was a homemaker while her children were growing up, and then she went on to be a Certified Nurse's Aide at Hillcrest Manor which is now the Newton Center in Sanford. She enjoyed working there for many years.One of Irene's greatest joys was being a grandmother. She was always there to support her family in their activities and accomplishments, and she could always be counted on to send birthday cards. She also enjoyed being outside, whether it was sitting with friends, or taking a walk. Irene was fond of holidays and looked forward to family gatherings, parades, and watching fireworks. Irene was a wonderful mother and grandmother, as well as a generous, caring person who enjoyed people and will be dearly missed. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 40 years, Delmont Perkins, who passed away in 1992, a daughter, Janice Goodall, brothers, Roger Roy and Winston Roy, and a sister Rita Brown and her husband Clarence, and a brother in law Fred Perkins Jr. Survivors include a son, Delmont Perkins , of West Newfield, a daughter Susan Duchette and her Husband Ronald, with whom Irene has lived with for the past 9 1/2 years, in Lebanon, a granddaughter, Melissa Goodall, of Sanford, a grandson Jason Duchette, of Woodbridge, VA, a granddaughter Amy Poulin and her husband Jason of North Waterboro, a grandson Brian Perkins and his wife Jill, of Bingham, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, a brother in law, Wayne Perkins of Shapleigh, and a sisters in law Jackie Roy of Dover and Sylvia Reddy. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
