Irene D. (Roberts) Orino, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on June 12th, 2024.
Irene was born on June 23rd, 1938 in Sanford, Maine to Kerwin and Dorothy (Michaud) Roberts. Irene graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Maine before attending Gorham State Teachers College, class of 1959. She went on to teach in Mexico, Maine, New York and finally at St Ignatius School, in Sanford.
Irene and Dan married in 1961 and settled down in Sanford to start a family. They were married for 59 years before Dan passed away in 2020. Irene loved to entertain her friends and family with large gatherings at their home but also enjoyed smaller, more intimate gatherings playing board games or cards. She also could be found many nights dancing the swing or jitterbug with Dan in their living room. She could often be found dancing around the house as there was always music on and one often found themselves pulled in to dance with her.
In Irene’s later life she loved to travel, read, was an avid gardener and spent summers with her family at her house on Wilson Lake in Acton, Maine. She also volunteered her time at St. Ignatius and Holy Family Church in Sanford, Maine setting up for events.
Irene is predeceased by her husband Daniel, her parents, and her best friends Stella Dion, and Waydette Poitras.
Irene is survived by her two daughters Lisa Orino, and Julie Orino with her significant other Duane Caron. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Kiera Murray, Kendra Murray, and Payton Orino.
Irene’s family would like to give a huge thank you to the entire staff at Pinnacle Health and Rehab in North Berwick, Maine as well as Hospice of Southern Maine for the care they gave to her in her final months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 24th, 2024, at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church 66, North Ave, Sanford.

Irene, I know we lost touch over the past few years, but I want you to know that you were an awesome godmother to me. I remember visiting your place at Wilson Lake with my grandmother Emily. You were always so glad to have us there on warm summer days.
Lisa and Julie, I know you already know this – but Irene was a great Mom and loved you both so much. She was my godmother, and when I was young, I thought everyone’s godmother should be as beautiful and loving as mine. Judy (Prime) Gibbs
