Ian S MacKechnie

ian mackechnie
Scarborough - Ian S. Mackechnie, 37, died after a long, hard-fought battle with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer on June 13, 2018. Ian was born on September 11, 1980, the son of Scott G. and Allison (Townsend) Mackechnie in Framingham, MA. He graduated from Medway High School (MA), class of 1999 and attended Plymouth State University. On September 20, 2008, Ian married his best friend Kerin McDonough at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. With childhood summers spent on Sebago Lake and time spent with Kerin in Boothbay Harbor, Ian and Kerin moved to Maine because of their shared love for the Maine way of life. Their family lovingly grew with the birth of Jack (6) in 2011 and Drew (4) in 2014, who became the center point of Ian's life. Ian was an avid golfer, notorious for crushing the ball off the tee while also crushing the spirits of his foursome competitors. He lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures - sitting around a fire, fishing, camping, enjoying a drink at the beach, and watching his favorite sports teams. Being an athlete his whole life, Ian was a devoted fan of all Boston sports. His love of soccer started young, and he was a key player of the 1998 Medway Boys' State Championship team. He passed on his love of sports to his sons, with whom he spent hours playing in the yard with family games of soccer, baseball, hockey, and basketball. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness and his humor, as no one was safe from his one-liners. Ian is survived by his wife, Kerin of Scarborough; two sons, Jack and Drew; parents, Scott and Allison Mackechnie of Old Orchard Beach; sister, Sara Cole and her husband Josh of Auburn; brother, Brett Mackechnie and his wife Robin of New Jersey. He is the beloved uncle of 12 nieces and nephews - Jacob, Benjamin and Matthew Cole of Auburn, Will, Catelyn, and Chloe Mackechnie of NJ, Kaitlin and Joseph Hahn of CA, Brady and Ryan McDonough of AZ, and Colin and Reagan McDonough of MD. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ian's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. Burial will be private. A celebration of Ian's life will be held at Willowdale Golf Club, 52 Willowdale Rd., Scarborough from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (Boston sports attire encouraged for the celebration). Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. 1. Ian is a story in my life through his loving Father Scott. When we traveled together, Scott would share his pride in Ian, but also his worry. We would talk for hours about Ian’s courageous fight and the inspiration Ian was giving Scott, but also others through Scott’s words. Dearly Heavenly Father, Ian rests in your welcoming harms. Ian’s love on earth is now with you. We pray for the Mackechie family. We hold you in our loving arms. My God’s grace and peace lift you into the knowledge that Ian loves you, will be with you and he will greet you in heaven. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May He lifted up your hearts and give you peace.

  4. Too many memories floating through my mind right now from back in the day. Ian, you are truly an original and one of the greats! I pray for the Lord’s peace to be with your entire family and I know you will be watching over them from the other side until you are reunited one day.

    – Drew Truscott

  5. We would not have won the state championship without Ian. He was a great leader and always pushed everyone to be better. I will always remember him running with his fist in the air after winning the state final on a free kick. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
