Howard J. Butch Chadbourne, Sr.

WINDHAM Howard J. Butch Chadbourne, Sr., 89, passed away on May 1, 2015 at Maine Medical Center with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Yarmouth, ME, on February 19, 1926 to the late Ernest C. and Lillian (Libby) Chadbourne. Joining the United States Marine Corps. at the age of 16, Butch honorably served his country during WWII aboard the USS Vello III which was an escort ship in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge, Butch returned home and married Hazel M. Brown in 1948. Together, they made their life in Libbytown where they raised their 6 children. For over 25 years, Butch served as a Sergeant First Class and later a Quartermaster in the Army National Guard. Butch worked for 25 years as truck driver for AP Trucking, and later with Holmes Transportation. He enjoyed dancing, golf, boating on Highland Lake and traveling in the RV with his wife. A proud parent, Butch was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #14, served as PTA President of West School, and volunteered for many other school organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Harold T. Andrews Post #17, and he was a 32nd Degree Mason where he was an active part of the Shriners. Butch lived life to the fullest, and had no regrets. He loved his family dearly, and was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Butch is predeceased by 10 siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Hazel M. (Brown) Chadbourne; six children, Howard J. (Denise) Chadbourne, Jr., Teri L. (Paul) Adams, Jan-marie (Michael) McCarthy, Charles E. (Traci) Chadbourne, Jeri L. (Roger) Levesque, and David M. Chadbourne. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition, Butch thought highly of the Lambert and Brett Families and considered them his own. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Staff of SCU 3 at Maine Medical Center for the compassionate care they gave to Butch. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 2-5PM at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 11AM at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland. Dear Hazel, Howie, Teri, Jan,Charlie, Geri-Lynn and David, I am so sorry to hear that Butch has passed away.
