Hiram C. Jones, 87, of Lebanon, died on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Evergreen Manor in Saco.Hiram was born in Lebanon on February 8, 1921 to John and Emma (Gerrish) Jones and attended local schools. He served his country in the 425th Bombardment Squadron of the 14th Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in China. Mr. Jones worked in the construction industry for most of his life. He was involved in several large projects including the construction of the Moore Reservoir Dam in Vermont and Holy Family Church in Sanford. He ran his own business for several years and then went to work for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a contract specialist for the ROICC office. Hiram was a person who always liked to keep himself busy. After his retirement, he drove school busses for a while then went to work for Congdon's Donuts. From 1970 to 1972, he served as a selectman for the town of Lebanon and was the civil defense director for the town in 1973. Mr. Jones was a very outgoing and friendly person. He enjoyed meeting new people and talking, especially about politics. He had been a member of the Masons for 58 years. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed raccoon hunting with his dogs Duke and Hondo. He enjoyed being around his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Courtney, who he would often babysit. He always had a funny line to say to his family and friends. His granddaughter often remembered him telling her, "Hiram is quiet, but still lots of fun. He saves his fooling, till the work is done. He will be remembered as a loving and loyal person and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.Hiram was predeceased by his parents and a brother, J.S.P. Jones III.Surviving are a son, Kevin Jones and his wife Sheryl of Sanford; his wife, Nancy Jones of Lebanon; two daughters, Sharon Jones of Lebanon and Susan Brigham and her husband Elliot of Sangerville; a granddaughter, Courtney Meunier of Lebanon; two grandsons, Kevin M. Jones and his wife Susan of Augusta and Brian Jones and his wife Erin of Waterboro and five great-grandchildren.At Hiram's request, there will be no services. Private interment will take place at Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon. Arrangements are through Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Rd.
