Herbert P. Lindblad, 91, of Springvale, husband of Elizabeth (Kisely) Lindblad, retired president of Aerofab, Inc. died of pneumonia on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.Born in New York City on March 19, 1919, a son of William and Olga Lindblad, Mr. Lindblad graduated from Oyster Bay High School. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, graduating Cum Laude from New York University, and a Master's Degree in Mathematics from Hofstra College.Mr. Lindblad worked for Brewster Aviation in Long Island City, NY before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he worked for Republic Aviation in Farmingdale, NY. In 1955, Mr. Lindblad was instrumental in bringing Colonial Aircraft to Sanford, ME. In 1963 he started and was President of Aerofab, Inc., which manufactured the Lake Amphibian aircraft. He worked at Aerofab, Inc. until his retirement. Mr. Lindblad was also Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Nasson College in Springvale, Me.Mr. Lindblad was involved in many community organizations, including Rotary International and was past president of the Lincoln School PTA. He was a past president of the Board of Directors of Goodall Hospital, was a past member of the Board of Directors of the local Salvation Army, and a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Springvale National Bank.He enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, travel and reading. He loved a good crossword puzzle, and skied until his 83rd year.In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Paul Lindblad and his wife Susan of Plaistow, NH and William Lindblad and his wife Linda of Bangor; two daughters, Carol Benway and her husband Del of Tollland, CT, and Betsy Appleby and her husband, Jim of Kennebunk; eight grandchildren, Pennie Hodges, Robin Doherty, Kate Deloureiro, Jim and Paul Appleby, and Gregory, Kelsi and Jonathan Lindblad; six great grandchildren, Sean and Mathew Doherty, Carley and Cameron Deloureiro, Ryan Hodges and Kyle Lindblad; as well as a nephew, Robert Lindblad and a niece Lisa Doan.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating his life on Saturday, May 8th at 10:45AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
