Helen M. Hurd
Helen May Hurd, 93, of Sanford, Maine, passed away on Wednesday October 17, 2007 at her daughter's residence in Plaistow, NH. Born on April 22, 1914 in Gloucester, MA, Helen was the daughter of Dennis and Fannie (Muise) Amero. Helen grew up in Saugus, graduating from Saugus High School in 1933. One of eleven children she was the only one to graduate from high school. In 1934 she moved to Sanford with her future husband, Ernest H. Hurd. After her husband's passing in 1961, Helen worked as a nanny for 20 years in Newton and Auburndale, MA.Helen was a communicant of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Springvale, Maine.She is predeceased by her husband, Ernest H. Hurd who passed away on November 3rd 1961. She is survived by one son, John Hurd of Hungry Horse, MT, one daughter, Marilyn Land of Plaistow, NH, three grandchildren, Kristine Penney, Danielle Staengel and Jack Hurd, two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Seth Hurd.An hour of visitation will be held on Saturday October 27th at 10am at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Catholic Church in Springvale. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the St. Thomas School Scholarship Fund, 69 North Ave, Sanford, Maine 04073.To leave the family a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
