Helen Peggy Cash

WESTBROOK - Helen "Peggy" Cash, 86, of Westbrook, died peacefully August 29, 2012 at Maine Medical Center. She was born May 11, 1926, in Portland, a daughter of Harold and Frances Webster Spencer. Peggy was educated in Portland where she graduated Butler Elementary School in 1940, and Portland High School in 1944. She married William Donald Cash on April 17, 1948 and began raising her family. She worked for 28 years as a unit secretary at Maine Medical Center on units P1A, P1C, and P4 CD. She loved caring for her home and for her cat Sophie. Although Peggy never learned to drive a car, she still enjoyed traveling. She went to Hawaii and took an Alaskan and Caribbean cruise, and visited Cape Cod and Canada every year. She would also participate in mystery bus tours out of Portland in the fall. She was predeceased by her husband William on January 12, 2005 and her son, Richard "Ricky" Michael in 1957. Peggy is survived by a daughter, Margaret "Penny" Allegretta of Yarmouth; two sons, William P. and his wife Lucille of Goshen, KY, Warren Joseph of Westbrook; seven grandchildren, Andrew Allegretta of Blacksburg, VA, Neil, Kenny, and Daniel Cash of KY, Katrina Anderson and her husband Jeremy of Portland, Lauren and Tori Cash of Portland; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Adrian Anderson; and sister Frances "Bet" Loring of Portland. Peggy's family would like to thank her neighbors of East Bridge Street for looking after her home while she was away; Marguerite LeBlanc of Westbrook for making a new home for her cat Sophie; Laura Angelone of Portland for an endless supply of pizza, and the staff of Maine Medical Center of Portland for the exceptional care they gave to Peggy in the ED, SCU 4 and P3 CD, and especially nurses, Melissa, Jen and Karen. The family would also like to thank and the staff at Coastal Manor of Yarmouth for providing excellent care and for letting Peggy be "Peggy". Visiting Hours will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, followed by an 11:00 a.m. service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
