Harvey Roberge

Harvey ' Friesse' Roberge, 87, of 15 Woodmont Street, Westbrook, formerly of Sanford passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday evening after having attended church. Harvey was born in Ham-Nord, P.Q., Canada on September 3, 1918 a son of David and Demerise (Dubuc) Roberge.Harvey lived in Sanford for much of his life where community members knew him by his nickname, 'Friesse'. Harvey was exceptionally well known in the Sanford and Westbrook regions largely due to his unparalleled, infectious good nature. He had an extraordinarily positive and inspirational impact on all people with whom he came in to contact with.Harvey attended the Community Partners' Senior Center in Portland where he participated in a vast array of recreational activities, enthusiastically embracing the oportunity to access the community enhancing his life experience to the fullest extent. Harvey was unconditionally willing to assist his fellow Senior Center participants in any manner necessary underscoring his unselfish regard to others.Harvey was a longtime volunteer at local nursing homes entertaining residents with his harmonica playing which was one of his many passions which included yodeling, singing, dancing, gardening and travelling. Harvey immensely enjoyed a trip to Canada last summer.He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Sanford for many years where he served as an altar boy and church contributor under the tutleage of Fr. Raymond Auger as Harvey's close affiliation with the church remained significant component of his life.He is survived by one niece, Nancy Chenard of Biddeford.Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home 29 Winter Street in Sanford from 10am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Sanford.
