Mavrakos, 76, of Sanford, Maine, died Friday June 29, at The Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine.He was born in Salem, MA., on February 12, 1925, the son of Theodore E. and Catherine G. Laraia Mavrakos, and moved to Sanford at age three where he attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1943. Mr. Mavrakos served in The United States Army during WWII. After his time in the Army he attended Miami University.His father opened the first Ted's Fried Clams in Shapleigh in 1950. Harry built the restaurant that is there today which he owned from 1954 to 2000.Mr. Mavrakos was a dedicated 4th degree member of The Knights of Columbus of Sanford, and was an integral part of making the convention hall there possible. He also served as past president for The Knights for two terms. He was also a member of the American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign War and the Wolves Club. He and his wife wintered in Popano Beach Florida.Mr. Mavrakos is survived by his wife of46 years Louise Cookson Mavrakos of Sanford; three sons Timothy Mavrakos, San Diego, CA., John Mavrakos, Shapleigh, ME., Anthony Mavrakos, Sanford, ME; a daughter Kathryn Mavrakos, North Reading, MA; two sisters Vivian Alge, Creskill, NJ., Gloria Lord, Homer Alaska; four grandchildren Laura Auger, Elise Auger, Isabella Mavrakos and Jack Mavrakos; also survived by several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM on Monday July 2, 2001 at Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday July 3, 2001 at St. Ignatius Church, St. Ignatius Street, Sanford. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Sanford.
