GORHAM—Grace Dyer Jordan, 95, of Gorham, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderfully caring people at CenterWell Home Health and Hospice of Southern Maine. She was born August 25, 1927, the daughter of Clyde G. and Mildred (Shaw) Dyer and grew up in Westbrook, attending Westbrook High School. Grace started her working life at S.D. Warren Paper Mill as a paper sorter and later worked as a bookkeeper for both Edwards and Walker hardware store and Stultz Electric. She also took on the added responsibility of a part-time bookkeeping job at Lemieux’s Texaco filling station and then later, Muffler Shop. Her last job before retirement was Office Manager at South Portland Nursing Home where she gained many friends. In retirement, Grace was not one for sitting around. She started her own business using her talents in creating one-of-a-kind crocheted baby sets, hats, mittens and many other beautiful items that she sold in stores in several different states. Grace’s incredibly loving heart was evident in the numerous awards she received as a volunteer in the volunteer office at Maine Medical Center. She has been recognized on multiple occasions for her commitment to being a volunteer and adding value to the volunteer office. Grace was a loving mother to her daughter, Bette. Known as “gram” to many including her three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, she just loved hearing about everyone’s life and wanting to help whenever she could by the giving of her time, a great listening ear, and her amazing heart. Everyone has a favorite Grace or gram story to tell because she touched so many lives. Grace was predeceased by her brothers, George, James, Byron and Adrian Dyer. She is survived by her daughter, Bette McCallister and her husband Walter of Gorham; her sisters, Myrtle Miller of Biddeford and Mary Bruns of South Portland; her grandchildren, Paul White and his wife Valerie of Sherman Texas, Jennifer Wilson and her husband David White of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Suzette Sass and her husband Brad of South Portland; her great-grandchildren, Paul White, Jr., Kristopher White, Megan White, Jared White, Matthew Inman, Kayla Beaulieu, Ariana Jackson, Elizabeth Sass and Sophia Sass; and her great-great grandchildren, Lilia and Eve White, Nolan and Charlotte White, Landyn York, Elijah Beaulieu, Blake Inman, Logan and Ava Jackson. 1. Grace was a beautiful, sweet lady and so talented. I really enjoyed spending time with her and seeing all the beautiful crochet work she created.

  2. I have a funny memory to share. Once years ago we were having a birthday party Val had made a Mickey Mouse cake and the ears of course were black food coloring. As you can guess all of us, including Grace, had black tongue’s and teeth. We didn’t realize it until we started looking at each other and started to laugh so hard. Grace said, what’s so funny? And then she realized that she too had black teeth and tongue. It was so funny, we laughed till our belly’s ached. What a fond memory but only one of so many over the years. Thanks for being there for every birthday, every holiday and every event that the kids we involved in. We love you Grace.

  3. Grace was such a caring and loving mother-in-law. She was always thinking of her family including me. She never forgot my birthdays and was always so generous at holidays. She showed me love over the years when l was part of the immediate family. She also welcomed my wife Barbara with open arms to the family. We will miss her emails “chuckles for the day” that she would send us. God bless you Grace you will not be forgotten. Love, Barb and John
