Gordon Scott Kirby 80, of West Newfield, passed away on January 11, 2025, at home surrounded by his family, from declining health related to dementia.

He was born in Syracuse, New York on June 19, 1944 to the late Herman and Helen (Cameron) Kirby. He was a very proud father to three sons and one daughter. He is predeceased by his eldest son Matthew S. Kirby in November 2023, leaving 2 grandsons, Evan Kirby, Cameron Kirby and his wife Chelsea, with great grandson Silas, all of Waterboro, ME. Son; Aaron Kirby and his wife Kim, with two grandchildren Caroline and Nathan of St. Louis, MO. Daughter; Christine Holmes and her companion Bradley Bowie, of Lyman, ME. Grandson; Robert Ethan Holmes of Waterboro, ME. Granddaughter; Cassandra Staples, her fiancé Christopher Brulotte, with great grandson Cade, of Limerick, ME. Son; Adam Kirby and his wife Amy, with 2 step grandchildren Molly and Maddox Humphrey of Sanford, ME.

Gordon is also predeceased by two brothers, Gene Kirby and Richard Kirby and two sisters Diane Smith and Candace Robinson.

Survivors include a brother Neil Kirby of Amsterdam, NY. A sister Sheila Caminiti of Johnstown, NY. A sister Michele (John) Bannerman of San Diego, CA. A sister Debra Perna of Utica, NY. A sister-in-law Alice (Richard) Kirby of Saco, ME, including many nieces, nephews and cousins spanning from Maine to California.

He lived his early years in Gloversville, NY, where he went to school, worked, married and raised four children.

He was an avid motorcycle rider and raced on short tracks in upstate NY in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Gordon had an article written about him in the Popular Mechanic Magazine during the highlight of his racing days.

He was a welder, motorcycle mechanic, salesman, and OTR truck driver. He was employed by General Electric in New York until its downsizing when the family moved to Sanford, ME where he then worked as a local tractor trailer driver.

He went on to own and operate a car transport business from 2008 to 2012 covering most all of the U.S. After over 40 years on the road, Gordon decided to discontinue his business and work locally as a tractor trailer driver out of Maine. He retired in 2019.

Gordon loved to hunt, fish, read western novels, camping trips with his family, and watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Being proud of all their accomplishments, he always did his best to be home for important events for his children. Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at many gatherings throughout the years.

At the family’s request there will be no services.
