November 14, 2016

Glema Roberts, in the arms of loved ones, returned to the Lord on November 14, 2016. She was born on August 25, 1915 in Skowhegan to Omar and Vera (Goodridge) Daggett. She attended school in Skowhegan where, in high school, she was a star basketball player, playing an aggressive forward. She was also on the track team and competed in the pole vault. She married her high school sweetheart, Adrian (Abe) Roberts on June 17, 1933. They had one daughter, JoAnn (Roberts) Hill, who they adored.Glema worked for many years as the bookkeeper for their business, Gem Auto Sales on Gem Street and later on Upper North Avenue. In 1955 she and Abe purchased the airport on the corner of Route 150 and the Dr. Mann Road where they operated Airport Auto Sales. Their slogan was "up over the hill, but on the level". Upon retiring, they moved to a farm in Cornville where Glema ran an antique shop. She loved antiquing, refinishing furniture and digging for treasures in "ancient dumps."Glema lived all her life in Skowhegan and the surrounding villages. The last four years she lived in Wells, with her granddaughter Glema Fay and her grandson-in-law and favorite Gin Rummy partner, Paul Coughlin.Glema dearly loved her daughter JoAnn and son-in-law Art, her grandchildren Glema and her husband Paul, her grandson Aaron (Slick) and his wife Mary, her great grandsons Justin Hill and Jordan Hill and his wife Marina. She took great joy in playing with her great great grandchildren, Benjamin and Josephine, and loved hearing them tell her they loved her "a bushel and a peck."Glema will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends. Her mortal remains will be buried in Skowhegan in the family plot. Her Spirit rests in the loving arms of God.In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Shriner's Hospital or the Salvation Army.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
