Gertrude I. Berard went to her home in Heaven on January 17, 2018, three days after her 93rd birthday in Scarborough.Gertrude was born on January 14, 1925, in Sanford, the 6th of ten children of Evariste and Aurore (Ouellette) Bergeron, and lived in Sanford her entire life.On June 12, 1948, she married Henry R. Berard and together they raised nine children, who all survive her: Donald Berard and his wife Kathy, Pauline Bernier and her husband Donald, Raymond Berard and his wife Susan, Albert Berard and his wife Yvette, Jeannine Hale and her husband Glen, Philip Berard, Margaret Brin, James Berard and his wife Jennifer and Jacqueline Berard.Gertrude's greatest joy was her family and she enjoyed celebrating many holiday gatherings at their homes, at Mike's Clam Shack in Wells and at the Oak Street Bistro in Alfred.She was talented at making handcrafts and enjoyed selling them at craft fairs and meeting fellow vendors and customers. She was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox. She roller skated until age 75 and enjoyed many bus trips while her health permitted.She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Parish, now St. Therse of Lisieux Parish and a past member of the Ladies of St. Anne.Gertrude was predeceased by her husband Henry, her grandson David A. Cochran, her son-in-law Robert Brin and her siblings Robert Bergeron, Lucille Roy, Estelle Gagne, Maurice Bergeron, Therese Bergeron and Sr. Berthe Bergeron. She is survived by her siblings Sr. Claire Bergeron, Richard Bergeron and Rachel Belanger, sister-in-law Georgette Garneau, by her nine children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren as well as step-grandchildren.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial will be in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.The family wishes to thank all the staff of New England Rehabilitation Hospital, the Newton Center, Southern Maine Health Care and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their care and consideration.
