Gerard J. Caron, 87, of Sanford, passed on Monday, August 8, 2011. He was born in Sanford on June 13, 1924, a son of the late Eugene and Laura (Dery) Caron. He attended Holy Family School. He then served in the US Navy during WWII.He was a member of the Sanford American Legion Post #19. He worked as a carpenter most of his life. In 1954 he moved with his family to Massachusetts where he worked in the construction field. In 1987 he retired from the Amherst School Department where he had been employed as the head of the carpenter shop. In 1987 he moved back to Sanford.He is predeceased by his siblings, Fernand Caron, Rita Caron, Therese L'Heureux, Gertrude Caron, Denis Caron and Raymond Caron.Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Simone (Morin) Caron of Springvale, a daughter, Diane Wend and her husband, Chris of Pennsylvania, a son, Steven Gerard Caron of Texas, granddaughters, Naomi Nogueira and her husband Frank, Samantha Wend and Nicholas Wend, three great grandchildren, Christiana Nogueira, Thalia Nogueira and Matteus Nogueira, sisters, Jeanne Rioux of Biddeford, Yvette Dumont of Sanford and Germaine Chevalier and her husband, Paul of Sanford, Doris Higgins of Sanford, Guy Caron and his wife, Rachel and Henry Caron and his wife, Paula.Visiting hours for Mr. Caron will be on Friday, August 12 from 6 to 8PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations in his memory to the St. Thomas School Scholarship Fund, 69 North Ave., Sanford, ME 04073.To leave the family a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
