George A. Ossinger of Shapleigh, passed away on Friday, January 22nd, surrounded by his loving family, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on December 14, 1948, George recently celebrated his 67th birthday. He was the son of the late George H. and Louisa F. (McWilliams) Ossinger of Saugus, MA. He was a graduate of Saugus High School and East Coast Aero Tech. George recently retired from Ekto Manufacturing Corporation in Sanford, and previously worked at Aerofab for many years. An accomplished hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed ice fishing on Mousam Lake and rabbit hunting with his hunting dogs. Living on the lake, he enthusiastically taught many family members and friends boating skills and water skiing. As a gifted mechanic and craftsman, George spent countless hours at Spiritwind Farm in Lebanon, ME. Although his skills were evident in helping to maintain the farm's barns and horse stalls, his most valued accomplishment was training and driving his and Kathy's Shire horses, Lucy and Abby. A resident of Maine for over 30 years, George was an avid Celtic and Patriot's fan. In his spare time, he loved to attend agricultural fairs and enjoyed watching horse pulling. Always a storyteller, he delighted his family and friends with his accounts of hunting, fishing, and working on the farm. His sister Jean L. Swallow preceded George in death. He is survived by his son Kyle Ossinger of Austin, TX, his twin brother Steven Ossinger and his wife Diane of Tewksbury, MA, a brother-in-law David Swallow of Saugus, MA, many nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend Kathy Ossinger and her daughters. At George's request, there will be no public services. In memory of his generous nature, memorial donations can be made to: The Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park, P.O. Box 1231, Gray, ME 04039.
