George S. Beety, Jr., 78 and his wife T. Laurette (Roberge) Beety, 79, of Elliotsville Township, formerly of Sanford, died in a fire at their home on January 4.George was born in New Portland on October 4, 1935, the son of George S. and Geneva (Gerry) Beety, Sr. Laurette was born in Lewiston on October 29, 1934, the daughter of Thomas J. and Laurette (Dubois) Roberge.They both attended Sanford schools and were both graduates of Sanford High School.After graduation, George served with the US Army. He then was employed for many years as an electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.Laurette was employed for several years as an operator for New England Telephone and then worked as a secretary in the Department of Probation and Parole for the Maine District Court system in Springvale and Alfred.While residents of Sanford, they attended St. Ignatius Church. They moved to Elliotsville in the late 1990's.George was a former member of the Sanford Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus in Sanford. He joined the local Masonic Lodge when he moved to Piscataquis County.Their only child, Donna Beety, died in 1983.George is survived by his sister Georgia Guertin of Sanford, brother Jovis Gerry and his wife Rosa of Sun City, FL, sister Georgie Provencher of Deland, FL, sister Margaret Crowley of Saco and several nieces and nephews.Laurette is survived by her brothers Raymond Legere and his wife Jane of Scarborough, Roland Legere of Dexter and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial for George and Laurette will be celebrated on Monday, January 13 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Their burials including with military honors for George will take place in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
