Gary W Green

Gary Wayne Green passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Gary was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather and friend who will be mourned by all those who knew and loved him. He was born on September 20, 1942 and grew up in the loving home of his parents, Lewis and Mary Green, in Long Beach, California. Gary enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and, during his final years in the Air Force, he was stationed in Portsmouth, N.H. After he was discharged in 1964, New England became his home. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he had a great love for the state of Maine, where he built his own camp on Treasure Island on Square Pond, and where he spent many summers and wonderful times on his boat. Gary honed his skills and talents as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, and after that, for his entire life, working on anything with an internal combustion engine made Gary a happy man. He was in auto parts sales before launching his own business, Greenline Supply Company, in 1985, a company that he ran for 23 years. He loved tinkering with engines and boats and could get anything working, even second-hand items that everyone else thought were broken. Gary was a multi-talented man with a passion for music. He played guitar and bass guitar in two musical groups - "Country Gents" and "From the Heart" and loved to entertain with them at nursing homes, church groups and summer festivals. He also loved car racing, watching football games and helping anyone and everyone in need - always quietly and without fanfare - from grandkids who called for advice to friends of a friend of a friend. Gary was a trusted advisor to many. He was also active in church leadership at Curtis Lake Church. Gary is survived by his wife and best friend Nancy Green. They were married in 1983 at the Congregational Church in Sanford, Maine, and were blessed with a blended family that included his three children, Tracey Day, Timothy Green and Tricia Benton, and his stepson Frank Harney. He was also blessed with nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and, in memory, he will continue to be a role model for all of them for how to face life's challenges - and joys -- with courage, humor, grace and dignity. Gary will forever be remembered by those who loved him and knew him for his ever-positive, gracious and life-embracing spirit, and he will never be forgotten. May his memory be a blessing. For those who mourn him, please draw comfort in the following passages from which Gary drew peace and inspiration; John 1:1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:14: "And the Word became man and lived for a time among us, and we viewed His glory - such glory as the only-begotten Son receives from His Father--abounding in grace and truth." The family has requested a private memorial service. Memorial donations in Gary's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
