Frederick A. St.Cyr Jr., 76, of Kennebunk and formerly of Sanford, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a lengthy illness on December 22, 2011. Fred was born in Sanford on July 12, 1935 to Frederick A. and Margaret (Bragg) St. Cyr and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School. Following high school Fred attended Gorham State College where he received both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education. He also went on to complete postgraduate studies at several colleges throughout New England. During his career Fred taught industrial arts and sciences for eight years at schools in Maine and Connecticut and then worked for 27 years in secondary school administration. For many years he was the director of what is now known as the Sanford Regional Technical Center. In the 1980's he also served as the assistant principal and then interim principal of the Sanford High School. He served as an industrial education instructor of graduate and teacher recertification courses at the University of Southern Maine and as a teacher in the adult education program in Sanford. Fred also worked for the Sanford-Springvale Redevelopment Corporation where he was involved with helping to redevelop the Nasson College Campus. In 2010 he was appointed to the Nasson Community Center's board of directors. He was also involved with helping to oversee the construction of the high school and technical center, helping to design an addition for the Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library, consulting for the new clock in front of the Sanford Town Hall and remodeling and renovating the Memorial Gym. Fred devoted his life to helping others through education and community service. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family friends and students. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Shirley White of New London, Ct.Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth St.Cyr of Kennebunk; a daughter, Kimberly Eder of Topsham; a son, Donald St. Cyr and his wife Michelle of Milo; a step-daughter, Mary Caron-Guillerault of Saco; a sister, Virginia St.Cyr of Sanford; five grandchildren, Elias Eder of Topsham, Eric Donegan Jr. of Saco, Jean-Philippe Guillerault, Antonie Guillerault and Mathieu Guillerault all of Saco and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Interment with a graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 19th at Forest Grove Cemetery, located on Cemetery Road in Lebanon.Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.
